Vienna, 24th June 2026. The Carinthian energy provider Kelag has launched the “Kelag Smart Charging” service together with the Viennese software company Podero. Private customers with the dynamic energy tariff “Kelag Strom Pro” can now charge their electric vehicles automatically during the cheapest hours on the electricity exchange.
Since the end of May 2026, the energy product “Kelag Smart Charging” has been available to end customers. The service automatically shifts the charging of electric vehicles to hours with low Day-Ahead prices on the EPEX electricity exchange, aligned with the user’s personal departure time and target state of charge. No additional hardware is required.
The technical platform is provided by Podero, a Viennese software company specialising in the optimisation and flexibility trading of home devices in the energy sector. Registration takes place via the Kelag customer portal and leads directly to an app with which end users can connect their electric vehicles and inverters within a few minutes.
For households with a photovoltaic system and smart meter, the service offers home energy management: the electric vehicle is preferably charged with surplus PV energy before drawing power from the grid. The service is included in the “Kelag Strom Pro” tariff at no extra charge and is currently available in the grid area of KNG-Kärnten Netz GmbH. By the end of June 2026, it will be extended to all of Austria.
